High School Football Preview Mag’s Top Polk Teams for 2011

It’s taken me a while to post more info from this year’s Friday Night Football Florida preview magazine, but better late than never, right?

My first post about the magazine listed the best teams in the state, according to FNF. This time, I wanted to pass along the teams that the magazine ranks as the best in the county.

FNF actually calls our area the “Heartland,” so the teams in this region also include those in Highlands County and some from Pasco County. It’s a strange mix, but Polk’s top programs are well ahead of the best from the other counties.

So, here are the top five teams in the region:

  1. Lakeland Dreadnaughts
  2. Lake Wales Highlanders
  3. Lake Gibson Braves
  4. Winter Haven Blue Devils
  5. Pasco Pirates

Lake Wales, however, has the most players (four) on the All-Heartland team. Representing the Highlanders are RB Jonte Sergeant, DL Marvin Wright, LB David Jones, and UT Rolan Milligan. Lakeland only has two players on the team: OL Evan Goodman and QB Jadrian Clark (listed as a UT).

Lake Gibson (DL Trent Taylor, DL Devante Terrell, OL Augie Schmidt), Kathleen (TE Kerwin Harrison, OL Adam Schertzer, WR Jarvis Washington), and Fort Meade (LB Jamie Willis, LB Maurice Russell, DB Jalen Brown) each have three players on the team, while Winter Haven (RB Adam Lane), Ridge Community (UT Shykeem Pitts), Mulberry (WR Nick Cain), Frostproof (OL Alex Collazo), and Victory Christian (UT Demeitre Brim) each have one.
